What to Pack: A Guide to Your Child’s Day at Simba Education

Starting early learning is a significant milestone, and we understand that you may have questions about the practical details. At Simba Education, we are committed to raising the benchmark for Early Education while providing a nurturing home-away-from-home for your child. We want you to feel confident and prepared for your family's journey with us, reflecting the thoughtful, high-quality care we provide.

Our Educational Philosophy

Inspired by the Reggio Emilia Philosophy, along with the Early Years Learning Framework and National Quality Standards, our philosophy sees each child as a capable, competent, and curious learner. Every child is a unique individual full of potential.

We strive to build true partnerships between children, educators, and families, creating an environment where collaboration, exploration, and creativity thrive.

We recognise that children have limitless ways of thinking and expressing themselves, the “100 languages of children,” and we are here to listen to every child’s voice.

Building authentic relationships with families and our community is of great importance to us, as we believe that raising a child takes a village.

Understanding Your Child: The Child Profile Form

To truly partner with you from day one, we ask families to complete a comprehensive Child Profile form.

This helps us ensure a smooth transition and tailor our care and programming to your child’s interests and needs.

The form includes questions about:

  • Previous care experiences and your child’s expected reactions to being left in our care.
  • Family dynamics, including siblings’ names and ages.
  • Family values and traditions.

We also ask for important cultural details such as:

  • Birthplaces of parents/guardians and the child.
  • Language(s) spoken at home.
  • Special words your child uses.
  • Cultural or religious celebrations important to your family.

This helps us celebrate culture as a vital part of their learning and allows us to honour each family’s unique background.

Routines and Care Details

Practical routines are essential for helping your child settle in. The Child Profile form covers:

  • Toileting: Whether your child uses nappies full-time, during sleep only, or is toilet trained.
  • Sleep habits: Number and duration of naps, comforters used, and the settling routine (e.g., bottle, bed, patting, special words).
  • Feeding: Information about feeding or eating concerns, type of bottle (Breast, Formula, Cow, or Other), number of feeds per day, and approximate times.
Safe Feeding Practices: The First Food Form

To prioritise your child’s health and safety, we provide a First Food Form for our Nursery aged children to ensure we only serve foods your child has already tried at home.

All meals are freshly prepared onsite by our in-house chef and take dietary, allergy and cultural needs into account.

The form includes foods such as:

  • Dairy: Cow’s milk, cheese, yogurt
  • Grains: Pasta, rice, bread, quinoa
  • Vegetables: Pumpkin, carrots, broccoli, spinach
  • Proteins/Fruits: Beef, chicken, eggs, avocado, strawberries, bananas, apples, mango, pineapple

You’ll also note the texture your child is comfortable with (mashed, lumpy, or whole). Please keep us informed of any changes to your child’s diet.

Supporting Individuality and Development

The Child Profile also allows you to share:

  • Fears or phobias
  • Current interests (to help with programming and settling)
  • Strengths and areas for development
  • Goals for your child while at Simba
  • Any special information or talents
