Our Philosophy

At Simba Education, we see every child as capable, curious, and full of potential.

The Reggio Emilia approach

Our philosophy is inspired by the Reggio Emilia approach, an internationally respected way of learning that places children at the centre of their own development. In simple terms, this means we don't teach children what to think, rather we encourage and empower them to think as they explore, experience and discover.

At the heart of our approach are these key beliefs:

    100 Languages of Children

We believe children have countless ways to think, explore, understand and engage with the world around them. Through our approach we support children to express themselves both verbally and non-verbally across a variety of mediums, experiences and themes — because every child has a voice worth listening to.

    Environment as the third teacher

The Reggio Emilia philosophy recognises the parent as a child's first teacher, the educator as the second, and the environment as the third. We design respectful, flexible and inviting spaces that give children the freedom to explore their interests, collaborate and share ideas while nurturing their growing competencies.

We view every child as a capable, competent and curious learner — a constructor of their own knowledge and meaning. We create environments and experiences with real materials and genuine opportunities for free play, preparing children with the skills they need most in an age of creativity and discovery.

    It takes a village

We understand that a child's growth and development is a collective effort. By building familiar, trusting relationships with families, our community and the environment, we create a sense of belonging and stable connections that support every child's learning.

    Documentation

Reggio Emilia recognises the importance of making children's learning visible. Through documentation, educators gain insight into children's thinking while revisiting and extending their learning over time — through portfolios, displays, photographs, drawings and written reflections.

Our five key principles

  • Expressive Experiences — Children learn best when they can express themselves. Through music, art, cooking, and creative play, children explore ideas in ways that feel natural and joyful.
  • The Role of the Teacher — Our educators are thoughtful guides. They observe, listen, and extend children's interests, helping each child grow in confidence and understanding.
  • Reciprocal Relationships — We believe learning happens through connection. Between children, educators, families, and the wider community.
  • A Pedagogy of Listening — Every child has a voice. We take the time to truly listen, valuing their ideas, questions, and perspectives.
  • The Environment as the Third Teacher — Our spaces are carefully designed to inspire curiosity, independence, and a love of learning.

Your child will grow in

  • Connection — through language, relationships, and community
