How It Works

Understanding the new 3-day subsidy guarantee and Child Care Subsidy (CCS)

New Government Changes

From January 2026, eligible families are guaranteed 3 days of subsidised childcare per week, regardless of work activity.

Child Care Subsidy (CCS)

CCS helps cover the cost of approved childcare. The amount you receive depends on your family income and circumstances.

Universal Access

Eligible families with children under school age can access subsidised care, even if parents aren't working or studying.

Simple Eligibility

Australian resident or visa holder? Child attending approved care? You're likely eligible. No activity test required for 3 days.

What is the Activity Test?

Previously, families needed to meet an activity test (work, study, or volunteering) to access subsidised care. The new changes guarantee 3 days of subsidised care for eligible families, regardless of activity. Additional days may be available based on your circumstances.

How much will I pay?

Your out-of-pocket cost depends on your family income and the centre's fees. The CCS covers a percentage of the fee (up to 90% for lower-income families). Use our calculator to estimate your costs.

What You Need to Know About the New 3-Day Subsidy

Starting January 2026, Australia's childcare landscape is changing for the better. The new three-day subsidy guarantee means that every family with children under school age will have access to three days of subsidised childcare per week, regardless of whether parents are working, studying, or volunteering.

What's Changing?

Previously, families had to meet an "activity test" to access more than two days of subsidised care. The new guarantee removes this barrier for the first three days, making quality early education accessible to all families.
