Public Holiday Make-up Days at Simba Education childcare centres in Sydney

Enrolled on a day that lands on a public holiday? Your child does not miss out. Book a make-up day instead.

What is a public holiday make-up day?

Public holidays close our centres, but your child’s booked day should not simply disappear. If your child is enrolled on a day that falls on a public holiday, we offer a make-up day so the session is not lost. Speak to your Centre Director and we will find another day that works for your family.

Am I eligible?

  • Your child is enrolled at a Simba Education centre
  • Your child’s regular booked day falls on a public holiday
  • You request the make-up day with your Centre Director in advance

Which days are affected?

Most public holidays fall on a Monday or a Friday. Check the dates coming up and plan your child’s week around them.

How do I book one?

Let your Centre Director know before the public holiday and we will book your child into an available session on another day, subject to room availability and educator to child ratios.

How public holidays affect your booked days

Most early learning centres in New South Wales close on gazetted public holidays and still charge for the day. The centre continues to pay educators, rent and running costs, and the Child Care Subsidy — estimate yours with our fee calculator is still applied to the session, so the day is billed as normal. What differs between providers is whether families get anything back for it.

A make-up day means the session you have already been charged for is not lost. Instead of the day disappearing from your child’s week, you book a replacement session at your centre, so your child keeps their routine and you keep the care you planned for.

Public holidays cluster at the start and end of the week. Good Friday, Easter Monday, the King’s Birthday and Labour Day always fall on a Monday or a Friday, and Australia Day, Anzac Day and the Christmas and New Year period often do too. That means Monday and Friday enrolments lose the most days across a year, and a make-up day removes that disadvantage.

Enrolled Mondays, Easter Monday falls on your day

Your centre is closed on Easter Monday and the day is charged as normal, with the Child Care Subsidy applied as usual.

With a make-up day, you book your child into an available session on another day of that week or the following week.

Your child attends the same number of days. Nothing is lost from your enrolment.
